During my three-month artist residency in Pullman at the mosnart visiting artist project, I challenged myself to be leisurely in a neighborhood defined by labor. I posed questions to myself: do we value labor over leisure? Has leisure become labor? Must we produce perpetually? Do …
Whether it’s chatting over drinks, laughing between a spoonful of Hawaiian ice, delving deeply over the most exquisite dishes or tasting everything our world has to offer, I love being with my parents. Recently, we hit the ground running. Well, that’s what we always do.
Unlike any other concert that I’ve attended, Beyoncé’s Renaissance World Tour Concert seemed to be as much about her fans and those who attended, as it was about her. Perhaps, it’s like the song goes, “We Are One”. Her fans identify with her.
As we entered the massive Mercedes Benz Stadium where Beyoncé filled to capacity on three nights, excitement was in the air. It was a sight to behold: so many people dressed and super-hyped for the occasion. I wished that I had arrived earlier so that I could have sat down and watched the fashion show as the concertgoers arrived in Beyoncé-like attire: sequins, glitter, fishnets, silver hats, booty shorts, and every kind of edgy fashion that you could imagine. The outfits were confidently worn. That evening, I gained a better understanding of ‘The Beyhive’.
The performance was outstanding. I had anticipated a show deliberate in delivering excellence in every aspect: highlighting Beyoncé, costumes, dancers, sound system, music selection, various stage sets. The show was fabulous! Beyoncé was superb. She rocked the night away. So much so that I may follow her to another city to see all of this unfold again. Next time, I’ll get there earlier and take photos of the fashion show put on by the Beyhive!
Sometimes we want to pack in so much goodness that we find ourselves running. We most definitely experienced that this weekend. As we idly drank cold drinks and looked beyond the pool to the lovely lake, I thought of the historic Chowan Beach in North …
I recently completed a three-month artist residency in the lovely Chicago neighborhood of Pullman. After considering a number of ideas of what I planned to do during my stay, I landed on contemplating the idea of leisure in area known for labor. This was not …
Onion Dip for Breakfast turns two and the journey just gets better every day. We’ve explored the nooks and crannies of life, clinked our glasses, tasted everything, and taken off for parts unknown.
This statue, which has adorned our deck for over a decade now, has brought me joy season after season. I call her… My Lady. I remember the day that we bought her at an estate sale and us hauling her up the steps to our …
With Greece having been in the news lately due to all of the fires and evacuations, I’ve reminisced about our time there a few years ago. We traveled throughout the country and found it to be simply beautiful. At this time, I’m hoping that Greece …
One of my very favorite foods is chicken wings. I like all kinds: Buffalo, lemon pepper, Nashville Hot, BBQ, teriyaki, you name it. It’s all good to me! It’s a perfect meal when sitting around and relaxing with friends.
These chicken wings are “Oven Baked Buffalo Wings”! I tell myself that they are healthier cooked this way, and just as delicious. They are crispy, juicy, tender and oh so good.
Recently, I had the opportunity to meet the 2023 James Beard Award Best Chef Southeast winner, Terry Koval. Just a few days before connecting with him at his Decatur, Georgia restaurant, The Deer and the Dove, I had been sitting in the Lyric Opera of …
