Remembrances Of Love
What can bring more joy than giving or receiving valentines? Such was the case on this cold and wintry recent Valentine’s Day, when I opened the front door to see red roses and fruit had been delivered. As the day progressed, thoughts of past Valentine’s Days came to mind. Memories flooded back to the times that my father stood at the door with flowers in hand and the biggest smile imaginable. I thought of Valentine cards given to me by my parents fifty plus years ago which I bring out on days like this to remind me of their love. There’s another card from them for their grandbaby-to-be, Erika, who was born just a few months after Valentine’s Day. I reminisce about my brother, Haywood, who now many years later surprises me with roses at my door. His smile brings joy to my heart and love to my spirit.
This 54 year old Valentine card is musical. Wind it up and it plays ”Love is a Many Splendid Thing”.
I made this ”I’ll Put a Spell on You” card for Darrell on our very first Valentine’s Day celebrated as a married couple in 1968. We were still teenagers. It seems like just yesterday but it was almost a lifetime ago.
Valentine‘s Day 2022 included roses and mangoes, one of my favorite fruits, from family. The sweet smell of the flowers permeates the air and their beauty grace the day.
